Take Charge of Your Personal Brand
If you’ve ever struggled to succinctly articulate your professional value, I highly recommend Take Charge of Your Personal Brand, by Guisselle Nuñez.
I recently attended The Watermark Conference For Women and participated in Guisselle’s session on personal branding in which she explains that “personal branding is something you manage, not something that just happens.”
We had access to a step-by-step workbook and her personal brand assessment survey. Guisselle suggests that you send the brief survey to at least 10 people, asking them to provide candid input on your top strengths and attributes. You should ask different audiences (professional, personal, etc.) to get a full view. The feedback you get back can be incredibly helpful to you — it might inform (or reinforce) how you are perceived. Comments might also reveal that others view you in ways that aren’t consistent with what you want to be known for (i.e., your brand).
Ultimately Guisselle’s book helps you move beyond the constraints of your job title and job description in communicating your value. And that guidance is a powerful tool for your career advancement.
